Subfreezing temperatures are impacting energy supply prices, but Central Hudson is here to help

If it feels like heating systems have been working overtime this winter, that’s because they have. This season has already included multiple prolonged periods of subfreezing temperatures across the Northeast.

Extended cold increases energy use and significantly raises demand for natural gas — the primary fuel used to heat more than 90,000 homes and businesses in our service area and a key input in generating much of the region’s electricity.

Cold snaps like these often raise questions about energy prices and their impact on customer bills. In the video below, Stacy Powers, a subject matter expert at Central Hudson, explains what’s driving current market conditions, how energy prices are set, and the steps Central Hudson takes to help manage volatility and support customers.
