Save Energy with HomeBoost
Central Hudson, HomeBoost, and the Mid-Hudson and Ramapo Catskill library systems have teamed up to help you take control of your energy use.
Borrow a HomeBoost BoostBox, a DIY home energy assessment kit, available on hand at select libraries, from select libraries (listed below) for free. It comes with everything you need to check your home’s efficiency, plus step-by-step help from the HomeBoost app.
After your assessment, you’ll get a FREE custom energy report by email, a $99 value, courtesy of Central Hudson.
Available for a limited time to Central Hudson customers who are members of the Mid-Hudson or Ramapo Catskill library systems.
WHAT YOU NEED
✅ Library Card: From the Mid-Hudson or Ramapo Catskill library systems.
✅ A Central Hudson account: You must be an active Central Hudson customer when you sign up.
✅ Smartphone: Android or iPhone will work.
✅ Home info: Details like year built, square footage, heating system, and window type improve report accuracy, though not required.
HOW IT WORKS
Once you’ve selected the correct kit (choose Android or iPhone) and borrowed it from your local library, you’re ready to get started.
SET UP
Download the HomeBoost app, create an account and then open your HomeBoost kit to scan the QR code. Follow setup prompts.
SCAN YOUR HOME
The app will guide you through the process, asking you to scan your home with the thermal camera, including doors, windows, and anywhere the camera shows high contrast (signifying air loss). You’ll take photos of your thermostat as well as the labels on your heating system and major appliances, if accessible, and provide info about your home.
GET YOUR FREE REPORT
Within days, you’ll receive a digital report, valued at $99. This report provides insights, recommendations and information on available Central Hudson incentive programs and rebates.
MAKE IMPROVEMENTS
Choose what recommendations you want to implement, including weatherization, heating system, or appliance improvements. Some projects you can tackle yourself, while others will require hiring a contractor.
Click on the video above for a step-by-step demo on how it works.

WHERE HOMES WASTE ENERGY
Here are some of the major sources of warm/cool air loss and inefficiency that an energy assessment will help you identify, as well as what sort of corrective measures could be suggested.

Non Do-It-Yourself Programs Through New York State
Here are some programs that offer home energy assessments and income eligble weatherization improvements you may qualify for.
- MyEnergy brings all your home energy upgrades together in one place—helping you understand your options, plan your projects, and find the right resources along the way.
- Comfort Home offers incentives on seal and insulate packages that are offered by trained and qualified Comfort Home contractors. Contractors can help you solve common problems like drafty areas in your home, rooms that are difficult to keep cool in summer, and roof ice damns in winter.
- EmPower+ offers free energy efficiency upgrades for income-eligible households, helping lower energy costs and improve comfort. During a home energy assessment, certified contractors identify necessary improvements and confirm eligibility for the program.

More Ways to Make Your Home More Efficient
Central Hudson’s partnership with the HomeBoost and local library systems is just the tip of the iceberg. Here are some other programs customers can take advantage of to save energy and money.
- Heat Pumps: Replace your heating system with these highly efficient, emissions-free heating and cooling systems and receive generous incentives. For example, a home of more than 1,000 sq ft that totally switches to heat pumps would receive an incentive of $8,000!
- Heat Pump Water Heater: A typical family of four would save about $350 a year when switching from a traditional electric water heater to a heat pump water heater. Central Hudson customers who make the switch receive a $1,250 rebate.
