Weatherization Programs, Home Energy Assessments, and Insulation Rebates

Connecting You with Resources For Energy Savings and Year-Round Comfort

New York homeowners and renters may qualify for free or discounted home energy improvements that can lower utility bills and improve year-round comfort. Central Hudson works with NYSERDA and regional partners to connect customers with weatherization programs, home energy assessments, insulation incentives, heat pump upgrades and other energy-saving solutions available through Empower+ and Comfort Home.

What is weatherization? 

Weatherization is the process of improving your home's energy efficiency by reducing air leaks and improving insulation. Common weatherization upgrades include:

  • Air sealing
  • Insulation improvements
  • Heat pumps
  • Heat pump water heaters
  • Window upgrades
  • Electrical upgrades needed for efficiency improvements

These improvements can help lower energy costs, reduce drafts and make your home more comfortable throughout the year.

empower+: Free Home Energy Improvements for Income-Eligible Households

Income-eligible homeowners and renters may qualify for no-cost home energy assessments and energy-efficiency upgrades through Empower+, including insulation, air sealing, heat pumps and other improvements that can help reduce energy use and lower monthly utility bills.
  • An in-home comprehensive home energy assessment to pinpoint where energy and dollars are being wasted
  • A personalized upgrade plan to help you lower your energy use
  • Funding toward the cost of home energy upgrades like air sealing, insulation, heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, and electrical service, and wiring upgrades

Customers who do not qualify for Empower+ may still receive $2,500-$4,000 in rebates for air sealing and insulation packages. An additional $2,000 may be available if you upgrade your windows to ENERGY STAR. Through this program, customers may receive: 

  • A no-cost consultation and in-home energy assessment 
  • Personalized information by a trained and qualified Comfort Home contractor
  • Help with selecting the improvement package that is right for you, including any available rebates and financing options

Homeboost: DIY Home energy assessment kit

Central Hudson's partnership with HomeBoost, the mid-Hudson and Ramapo library systems allows our customers to borrow a DIY energy assessment kit for free. Customers receive a free weatherization starter kit and a free personalized home energy report, courtesy of Central Hudson.
