Storm Claim Form

We understand the impact an extended power outage can have on you and your family. Losing electricity for several days can be stressful and disruptive, especially when it results in spoiled food, lost medication, and unexpected expenses. We appreciate your patience as our crews worked to safely restore service following the severe July 4 storm.

If your electric service was interrupted for 72 hours or more and you experienced losses due to a lack of refrigeration, you may be eligible to submit a claim for reimbursement. Please review the information below carefully to understand eligibility requirements, documentation requirements, and important application deadlines.

The form below is for customers who experienced an electric service outage lasting 72 hours or more following the July 4, 2026 storm. Customers who were without power from 7:30 p.m. on the evening of Saturday, July 4 through 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, and experienced perishable food and/or prescription medication losses due to lack of refrigeration are eligible.

Important:

  • You have 14 days to submit your claim application. All claims related to the July 4, 2026 storm must be received by July 21, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.
  • Allow up to 30 days for Central Hudson to review your application, make a determination and respond to you.
  • Review all requirements carefully to understand which items are eligible for reimbursement and what documentation is required for your claim application.

Perishable Food Reimbursement Requirements:

  • Residential customers submitting a claim for perishable food items must provide an itemized list including prices of each item for all items up to $235. If perishable food claims exceed $235, proof of loss documentation must also be provided in addition to the itemized list. Proof of loss documentation may include: itemized receipts, itemized cash register receipts, itemized credit card receipts or photograph of replacement goods that indicate price of the item and/or other verifiable documentation of the market value of the item. The limit on perishable food claims with proof of loss is $540.
  • Small Business customers* submitting a claim for perishable food items can submit a claim of up to $540. With all claims applications, small business customers must provide an itemized list including prices of each item AND also provide proof of loss documentation. Proof of loss documentation may include: itemized receipts, itemized cash register receipts, itemized credit card receipts or photograph of replacement goods that indicate price of the item and/or other verifiable documentation of the market value of the item.

"Small business" is a non-residential customer that receives service either: (1) under a non-demand billed rate, or (2) under a demand billed rate, provided the highest metered demand was less than or equal to 40 kW during the previous 12 months. A gas "small business customer" is defined as a firm gas customer that has actual annual gas consumption that does not exceed 750 dekatherms per year, or, for customers with less than one year of actual meter readings, is a firm gas customer that has an average actual monthly usage that when multiplied by 12 does not exceed 750 dekatherms.

Prescription Medication Requiring Refrigeration Requirements:

  • Reimbursement for actual losses of prescription medication that requires refrigeration are not included in the $540 maximum payment for food spoilage.
  • You must include an itemized list with all fields completed AND proof of actual prescription medication loss. Proof must include a legible pharmacy receipt identifying the medication, amount paid, date of purchase, and days of supply.
  • If your medication spoils due to lack of refrigeration after it has been partially consumed, please include only the value of the unused medication in your claim. For example, if you paid $300 for a 30-day supply of medication and there are five days left in your prescribed supply, your claim should be for $50.
