FAQs

What are some of the benefits of converting from oil or propane to natural gas?
Natural gas lets residents live the way they want, from laid-back through to luxurious! As the most convenient, green and long-term affordable fuel compared to oil and propane, the benefits list is long. Natural gas uses include home and water heating, cooking, fireplaces, clothes drying, barbeque hookups, pool heaters, fire-pits and even outdoor heaters! Concerned about cost? Natural gas has historically been the most economical home fuel. In fact, many Central Hudson customers have experienced long-term savings of up to 50% when compared to prior spending on home heating oil. Beyond this, natural gas customers also typically experience reduced maintenance costs for ancillary equipment such as pumps, motors and filters when compared to oil heating.

How much money can I save if I convert to natural gas?
Several factors that must be considered such as the type, amount, and cost of fuel that you’re currently using. Any changes to how you use natural gas at home can also have an impact on your estimated savings. Upgrading to an energy-efficient natural gas heating system can maximize your savings even further. Central Hudson is currently offering residents cash incentives of up to $3,595 for converting to natural gas! Learn more.

If I convert my existing heating unit to natural gas (often called a burner conversion), will I qualify for an incentive?
Yes, you will qualify for the $1,000 Central Hudson bonus for switching to natural gas heat. This is a mail-in incentive. Please use this worksheet to apply for the $1,000 incentive. A burner conversion does not qualify for a match through the Blue Shield Trade Ally program. Also, your project will not qualify for any energy efficiency rebates because you are not installing a new boiler or furnace. All energy efficiency rebates require the installation of new, energy-efficient HVAC equipment.

What’s the cost to complete a natural gas conversion?
The cost can vary and depends on a number of factors such as internal gas piping requirements, selection of natural gas equipment and other potential capital infrastructure costs that may be necessary to deliver natural gas to your home. To offset some of these expenses, Central Hudson is currently offering qualifying residents cash incentives of up to $3,595 for converting to natural gas. Learn more.Van with simply better logo
