Central Hudson Employees Again Help Neighbors
Food Drive Marks 35th year; Contributions Support National Hunger and Homelessness Month

Employees of Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. donated food and grocery gift cards as part of their annual Thanksgiving food drive to benefit local families in need.

“Each year, our employees are pleased to help create a memorable Thanksgiving for our less fortunate neighbors,” said Denise D. VanBuren, Vice President of Public Relations at Central Hudson. “This season, we’re supporting five families through Dutchess Outreach, providing fresh and non-perishable food and grocery gift cards for Thanksgiving dinner and beyond. It is a longstanding tradition among our employees, and this is the 35th consecutive year food and funds have been collected by our employees to support local residents.”

Dutchess Outreach provides meals, coordinates medical needs, distributes winter coats and offers advocacy for individuals and families in and around Poughkeepsie.

November marks National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Month, serving as an important reminder to support organizations and programs that provide food and shelter to less- fortunate individuals and families.

“While the start of the holiday season is a good time to contribute, many families face hunger issues year round,” said VanBuren. “That is why Central Hudson pledged to provide 55,000 meals to the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley when enrollment in our electronic billing program, e-Bills, reaches 55,000 customers. We’re close to our goal, and we hope to be able to provide these meals in 2016.”

The meals will benefit the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley and its member agencies: nearly 400 soup kitchens, food pantries, emergency shelters, and feeding programs for youth, seniors, the disabled, homeless and others in six counties of the Hudson Valley.

Customers enrolling in e-Bills now through Nov. 27 will also be eligible for an opportunity to win $500.
