National Lineworker Appreciation Day Recognized by Central Hudson

Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. joins the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), the Edison Electric Institute and utilities across North America in celebrating National Lineworker Appreciation Day. The recognition is held each year on July 10 in honor of the life and work of Henry Miller, the first president of IBEW who died on this day in 1896 by falling from a utility pole after receiving an electric shock.

“A safe and reliable electric system depends upon the important work performed by our lineworkers,” said Charles A. Freni, Senior Vice President of Customer Services and Transmission & Distribution Operations at Central Hudson. “We’re proud to recognize their critical contributions both during storms emergencies and every day to maintain vital electric service for our customers. We are equally proud of their personal dedication and professionalism and thank all lineworkers for their exemplary service, often working under hazardous conditions.”

Lineworkers undergo lengthy training to master a wide variety of skills necessary to safely perform their jobs. Today, newer technologies are being deployed by lineworkers to modernize the electric grid and enhance service to customers.

Freni explained that Central Hudson actively supports the Troops to Energy initiative to help veterans transition to meaningful careers in the energy industry, including positions as lineworkers. Central Hudson also honors its natural gas workers, and will recognize their contributions during the National Gas Utility Workers day in March.
