Keep Children Away from Downed Powerlines This Halloween

Mid-Hudson Valley residents are reminded to use caution this Halloween in the aftermath of Sunday’s and Monday’s wind storm, which brought trees and limbs down onto powerlines throughout the region. “While most of the work to repair the damage brought by the storm is complete, there may still be areas where powerlines may be on the ground as final repairs take place,” said Michael L. Mosher, President and C.E.O. of Central Hudson. “Residents are warned to stay at least 30 feet away from downed lines, and treat all fallen wires as live.

“Be especially cautious near fallen trees, as wires may be hidden and entangled in branches,” said Mosher. “Be safe this Halloween by keeping yourselves and children away from fallen trees and lines.” Residents are asked to report any downed lines to Central Hudson by calling (845) 452-2700, or by dialing 911.

Mosher also urged motorists to stay focused while driving tonight when children will be out trick-or-treating. “Our Distracted Driving awareness campaign serves as a reminder to watch for potential hazards, especially tonight when children will be out along streets and roadways,” said Mosher. “Please, put the phone and other distractions away so that you can see what may be ahead.”
