Central Hudson Team Building Exercise Leads to Bicycle Donation

Employees of Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation combined a team building exercise with a gesture of community support by donating bicycles they assembled to the YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County.

“We conducted a team building exercise with employees in our transportation group by holding a friendly bike-assembly competition,” said Eric Kiszkiel, Manager of Enterprise Support Services for Central Hudson. “As we prepared for this exercise, we considered what we would do with the finished bicycles, helmets and the specialized tools used for assembly, and decided to donate them to the YMCA to support their Bike-It! program.”

Bike-It! is a bicycle education program for children ages 10 to 15 offered by the YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County, with sessions held in the spring, summer and fall.

“We thank Central Hudson for supporting our Bike-It! program,” said Tom Polk, Bicycle Educator for the YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County. “These 9 bicycles will enable us to offer the program to more children, which teaches safe riding, bicycle repair and much more while encouraging outdoor activity. This is a great example of how a local business is willing to serve the needs of the community.”

“We’re very pleased to offer these bicycles to the YMCA, as they will put them to good use for the benefit of the children they serve,” said Kiszkiel. “Our employees found value in assembling the bikes, made all the better by knowing they were also assisting a vital community organization.”
