Central Hudson Receives 2017 Business of Historical Distinction Award

The Dutchess County Historical Society has recognized Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. with the 2017 Business of Historical Distinction Award, an award presented to a local business that has demonstrated a longstanding tradition of service and commitment to Dutchess County residents.

“While our company’s cornerstone was laid in Newburgh in 1900, our dozens of predecessor companies actually reach back as far as 1850. So, we have long and significant ties to the histories and progress of all of our local communities,” said Vice President of Public Relations Denise D. VanBuren, who accepted the award on behalf of Central Hudson in ceremonies held in Poughkeepsie last evening.

“We feel privileged to have been a partner with local towns, villages and cities for more than 150 years, and it was certainly a joy for us to receive this recognition from the Dutchess County Historical Society to celebrate those continuing strong relationships.”

Lou Lewis, Vice President of Dutchess County Historical Society who announced the awards, said, “We believe that certain businesses, just as much as any family, can have distinct and proud historical legacies. Central Hudson shepherded us, and our grandparents and their grandparents, through successive generations of new technologies. Each successive technology affected all parts of society – and changed how we all live and work in Dutchess County. It is a pleasure to recognize this achievement.”

Dutchess County Historical Society’s mission is to conserve the past to educate for the future by procuring, promoting, and preserving the history of Dutchess County. For more information, visit; and for more on Central Hudson in the Community, visit
