Central Hudson Promotes Energy Efficiency, Recycling at the Dutchess County Fair

Fairgoers at this year’s Dutchess County Fair will learn about new and innovative ways to become more energy efficient and add modern comfort and convenience to their homes by visiting Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation’s booth, where they will also find valuable information on many other energy-related topics.

“The fair brings together our customers and employees, and it provides an opportunity to exchange ideas, learn more about our programs and services and to answer questions,” said Michael L. Mosher, President and C.E.O. of Central Hudson. “We’re excited to greet our customers and share information of interest with them. We’ve been proud to be a part of this community event since the 1920s.”

This year, Central Hudson is introducing its new Insights+ subscription program, designed to help customers understand their electricity usage patterns and take steps to manage their energy consumption. Enrolled customers may log in to view their hourly, daily, weekly and monthly electric use and see when they utilize electricity most. Participants’ existing electric meter is replaced with a new Insights+ meter, and user-friendly displays help customers make smarter energy decisions to meet energy saving goals. For example, customers can identify how much energy is used when the home is empty, or whether there is a particular time of the day when energy usage is particularly high. They can use the information to assess if an appliance known to run during this period should be upgraded or better utilized. Insights Plus is available by subscription for $4.99 per month. More information is available at and click on the Insights+ link.

Additional information will be available on energy efficient products and services, electric vehicles, how to prepare for storms and severe weather, switching to natural gas service, family safety and more.

Central Hudson is also pleased to partner with the Dutchess County Fairgrounds through its seventh annual sponsorship in support of recycling at the fair. “Central Hudson and the Dutchess County Agricultural Society share a commitment to the environment, and we’re pleased to support their recycling efforts,” said Mosher. He explained that this sponsorship is part of Central Hudson’s decades-long commitment to preserve and protect the beautiful and historic natural assets of the Hudson River Valley. Recycling bins will be placed throughout the fairgrounds, and visitors are encouraged to recycle their water and other beverage bottles. Recycling was originally established by the fairgrounds in the 1990s, and in 2016 alone more than 3.3 tons of plastic, glass and tin were recycled through these efforts.
