Celebrate National Drive Electric Week

Attend a Drive Electric Week event to learn more about electric vehicles

Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. joins electric auto enthusiasts in celebrating National Drive Electric Week from Sept. 9-17, 2017, held to heighten awareness of the benefits and availability of plug-in vehicles.

“National Drive Electric Week offers our customers opportunities to learn of the advances manufacturers have made in the development of electric cars, with many commercial models now available that are less costly to drive than gasoline models and better for the environment,” said Michael L. Mosher, President and C.E.O. of Central Hudson.

Compared to gasoline-powered cars, plug-in electric vehicles save 50 to 70 percent in operating costs, and the electricity produced to power the vehicles emits fewer greenhouse gases and other pollutants than gasoline engines.

Plug-in electric cars use high-capacity batteries that provide typical driving ranges of 70 miles to more than 200 miles, and can be easily recharged at home or through the growing network of public charging stations. Plug-in hybrid vehicles generally provide electric power for most local driving, with the ability to offer extended ranges with a gasoline-powered motor; these also use high capacity batteries to provide driving ranges of 15 to 50 miles before an on-board gasoline engine turns on to power the vehicles.

Current incentives offered for the purchase of electric cars include a $7,500 federal tax credit and rebates of up to $2,000 through New York State.

Auto maker Nissan recently announced a special rebate of $10,000 off MRSP on the 2017 all-electric Leaf for Central Hudson customers, now through Sept. 30, 2017 or while supplies last. Eligible customers must be served by Central Hudson and are required to show a copy of their utility bill and the program flyer, available at Complete rules are available through local Nissan dealerships.

Special Drive Electric Week events are taking place locally featuring electric cars and information to provide customers with opportunities to test drive and learn more about electric vehicles, including:

  • Saturday, Sept. 9 at the Ulster County Courthouse, 285 Wall Street in Kingston, N.Y. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (see
  • Sunday, Sept. 17 at Marist College (in front of the McCann Arena), from noon to 3 p.m. (see

These events are co-sponsored by the Sustainable Hudson Valley, Kingston Climate Smart Committee, New Yorkers for Clean Power, Solarize Hudson Valley, Sierra Club, Hudson Valley Electric Vehicle Drivers and Central Hudson.
