Careers in Energy Week Recognized in October

Looking for an exciting and rewarding career? Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. joins other utilities in promoting National Careers in Energy Week, recognized Oct. 15 – 19, 2018, to tout the growing number of job opportunities in the energy sector.

“This is one of the most exciting times in the energy industry, as we adopt new technologies, offer customers better options and transition to cleaner energy sources,” said Charles A. Freni, President and C.E.O. of Central Hudson. “There is a wide variety of meaningful careers in this field, and as an energy company we’re proud to offer local employment opportunities here in the Mid-Hudson Valley.”

Central Hudson employs electrical and mechanical engineers, natural gas mechanics, electric line crews, finance and accounting professionals, transportation and vehicle specialists, customer service representatives, computer programmers, project coordinators, legal services, human resource administrators and many others. Employees perform tasks such as maintaining the natural gas and electric distribution system, planning and executing major projects, procuring energy supply, coordinating with solar and renewable energy developers, promoting energy efficiency programs, deploying new information and system technologies, working one-on-one with customers and much, much more.

“Careers in Energy Week offers the opportunity to learn more about available jobs in this rapidly changing and growing industry, and we welcome the chance to share information about careers here at Central Hudson,” said Freni. “We employ an engaged and diverse workforce to meet the energy needs of our customers.”

He explained that Central Hudson also offers special career programs to help veterans, students and the community learn of opportunities at the utility.

Central Hudson partners with Troops to Energy Jobs, a program that helps U.S. military service veterans make a successful transition to a rewarding career in the energy industry. The program provides veterans with educational and career counseling as well as job placement assistance. “Through our participation with the Troops to Energy Jobs program, we’re working independently and with other energy companies to reach out to veterans as a potential employer,” said Freni. He explained that more than 70 veterans are employed at Central Hudson, comprising nearly 7 percent of the energy company’s workforce.

A summer internship program is offered to college students, offering valuable, real-life experience working side by side with professionals at Central Hudson. Disciplines include Project Management, Gas & Electric Design Work, Computerized Gas & Electrical System Analysis, System Protection and Planning Analysis, Finance & Accounting and more. Many interns have found career and employment opportunities at Central Hudson after graduation.

Through the Central Hudson Community to Work Program, individuals from urban neighborhoods spend the summer working in a variety of entry-level positions. While gaining practical experience, they network with and learn from current professionals at Central Hudson. Participants have the opportunity to prove their work ethic, motivation and interest in eventually becoming a valuable member of the Central Hudson team.

Careers in Energy Week was created by the Center for Energy Workforce Development and its members to celebrate and raise awareness of energy careers and their importance to communities, states, and the nation.
