Central Hudson: Give the Gift of Life, Be a Blood Donor

In the last nine years, employees of Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. have held 33 blood drives in cooperation with the American Red Cross of the Mid-Hudson Valley and donated more than 676 pints, providing lifesaving blood for those in need. Today, Central Hudson supports the American Red Cross Missing Types campaign, to raise awareness and encourage donations of all blood types, as only 3 out of 100 Americans are blood donors.

“Our employees regularly and voluntarily donate blood to help maintain needed blood supplies in our area and elsewhere, and to support the work of the American Red Cross,” said Sharon McGinnis, Central Hudson Vice President of Human Resources and Safety. “We’re proud to join the American Red Cross in raising awareness of the continuous need for blood to help the injured and hospitalized in receiving needed treatment toward full recovery.”

“We commend Central Hudson for their many years of support and for helping to promote our campaign to encourage blood donations,” said Kelly Formosa, Executive Director of the American Red Cross of the Mid-Hudson Valley. “According to a 2019 survey conducted on behalf of the Red Cross, more than 50 percent of donors provide clothing, food and financial contribution to help others; however only three percent of people in the United States give blood, We urge every resident to consider the gift of life by joining Central Hudson and others in participating in our local community blood drives.”
