Central Hudson Earns 2020 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Award

Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. was selected as a recipient of the 2020 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Award for outstanding efforts in promoting and educating its customers on energy efficiency and ENERGY STAR® certified products. This is Central Hudson’s third such recognition, receiving the Excellence in ENERGY STAR® Promotion award in 2018 and 2019.

“We are a proud ENERGY STAR® partner and committed to our record of environmental stewardship and promoting the many benefits of energy efficiency,” said Charles A. Freni, President and CEO of Central Hudson. “While we’re all affected by the current pandemic, we do not want to lose sight of protecting our natural resources. We’re honored to receive the Partner of the Year Award and look forward to continuing our productive relationship with ENERGY STAR®.”

The utility received the award for its outstanding efforts in multi-channel promotion and outreach in advancing featured ENERGY STAR® products.

Central Hudson’s 2019 achievements include:

  • Launching instant rebate programs for ENERGY STAR® certified smart thermostats ($40) and heat pump water heaters ($750, which increased to $1,000 in 2020);
  • Partnering with lighting retailers to increase the number of store locations offering point-of-purchase instant Central Hudson rebates from 45 in 2018 to 75 in 2019. Since 2016, more than 1.9 million ENERGY STAR® light bulbs have been purchased by Central Hudson customers through the utility’s programs, saving nearly 75,000 MWh of energy annually; and
  • Continuing to provide customers with the Appliance Recycling Program. By properly recycling older, functioning refrigerators and freezers and replacing with ENERGY STAR® certified models, Central Hudson customers save an average of 700 to 1,600 kWh per unit, see a reduction in annual electricity charges of about $100 and prevent harmful pollutants from entering the environment.

“I salute the 2020 ENERGY STAR® award winners,” said Anne Idsal, principal deputy assistant administrator for air and radiation with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). “These leaders demonstrate how energy efficiency drives economic competitiveness in tandem with environmental protection.”

The ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Award recognizes businesses and organizations in good standing that demonstrate superior leadership, innovation and commitment to environmental protection through energy efficiency and ENERGY STAR®.
