Central Hudson Crews Work to Restore Power Following Halloween Windstorm

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY, November 1, 2025, 8:45 a.m. – Central Hudson crews worked through the night to restore service to customers who were impacted by the powerful windstorm that moved through the Hudson Valley and knocked out power to more than 17,000 customers on Friday afternoon and night. As of 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, approximately 6,500 homes and businesses are without power, with Dutchess, Ulster and Greene counties the most heavily impacted.

“Our crews are in the field assessing damage from yesterday’s windstorm and are working to restore service as safely and efficiently as possible,” said Eric Kiszkiel, Vice President of Operations and Safety. “We understand how critical electric service is to our communities, which is why we have secured 140 additional mutual assistance line workers to help expedite repairs.”

“With nearly 275 active damage locations, we expect restoration efforts to last throughout the day. Some of the most heavily impacted areas may see outages extend into Sunday morning,” Kiszkiel added.

Residents are advised to exercise an abundance of caution around downed power lines by staying at least 30 feet away and remember that downed lines can become entangled and hidden in fallen limbs. Residents should also remember to assume that any downed power lines are live.

Customers are advised to keep safety in mind, particularly during power interruptions:

  • Never use kitchen stoves or outdoor gas or charcoal grills indoors, as they pose a fire hazard and over time can give off carbon monoxide gas;
  • Avoid opening a refrigerator unnecessarily during outages, so that food lasts longer; an unopened refrigerator can keep food fresh for up to 4 hours;
  • Beware of fallen trees and limbs, and use caution when traveling;
  • Avoid the use of candles for illumination due to fire hazards;
  • Follow the manufacturer’s safety instructions on the use of emergency generators, and be sure to shut off the main breaker when in use and operate the units outdoors;
  • Operate cars and motor vehicles outdoors only, and never inside the garage; and
  • Avoid travel along roadways as hazardous conditions may cause driving accidents, including those involving utility poles which may cause power interruptions.
