Central Hudson Distributes Dry Ice, Bottled Water in Ulster County

Central Hudson Gas and Electric Corp. will distribute dry ice and bottled water to customers who have been impacted by the severe wind storms starting at 3:00 p.m. in Woodstock and Rosendale at the following locations:

  • Rosendale Community Center, 1055 NY-32, Rosendale, NY 12472
  • Woodstock Community Center, 56 Rock City Rd., Woodstock, NY 12498

“Yesterday’s wind gusts caused a great deal of damage in Ulster County and throughout our service area. We have 420 line and tree professionals working as safely and efficiently as possible to address more than 210 remaining individual damage locations,” said Ryan Hawthorne, Vice President of Electric Operations and Engineering at Central Hudson. “We are happy to provide this dry ice to our customers and appreciate their patience while restore service.”

Central Hudson expects to have most of the impacted homes and businesses restored by Tuesday evening, Hawthorne added, but areas that were heavily impacted will have lingering outages into Wednesday evening.

Strong sustained winds and powerful gusts on Monday night and Tuesday morning caused trees and tree limbs to fall on power lines and interrupted electrical service to nearly 33,000 customers throughout Central Hudson’s service area, nearly 19,000 of which were located in Ulster County. As of 1:30 p.m., approximately 5,600 customers in the service area were without power with the majority of outages located in Ulster and Greene counties:

  • Dutchess County: 98 customers affected;
  • Greene County: 1,015 customers affected;
  • Ulster County: 4,400 customers affected

Residents are reminded to stay at least 30 feet away from downed powerlines and that lines can be hidden within fallen trees and limbs. It is important to also treat all downed lines like they are live, Hawthorne said.
