Supporting New York's climate goals

Central Hudson is taking action to reduce carbon emissions and make clean energy available to customers.

We're strengthening the electric grid while adding capability to deliver more clean energy.
Central Hudson supports our customers’ clean energy and emissions reduction efforts through energy efficiency incentives and clean energy options. These include incentives for weatherization, adoption of heat pumps, support for electric vehicle infrastructure, resources for expanding solar development, clean energy options, such as Community Solar for residents and businesses, and much more.
Central Hudson is implementing initiatives to reduce emissions and provide alternatives to conventional natural gas. These include replacing aging infrastructure to reduce emissions, sourcing gas from low-emissions providers, utilizing renewable natural gas and potentially zero emissions fuels, and identifying opportunities to convert buildings using gas to heat pumps and other low-emissions options. Our Gas System Long-term plan which outlines numerous initiatives to reduce emissions and promote clean energy alternatives, has been accepted by state utility regulators.
Central Hudson has partnered with utilities across the state to build innovative electric transmission solutions for bolstering reliability and resiliency and to create pathways to deliver clean energy into New York's system.
Central Hudson is reducing our own carbon footprint by expanding our fleet of electric vehicles, installing solar panels on our facilities, and reducing emissions across operations.
Central Hudson's system distributed electricity from the New York wholesale energy market, distributed energy resources, and Central Hudson's local hydroelectric plants. Over half of the electricity delivered to customers comes from zero-emissions sources.

More to come

Building a system to accommodate more renewable energy

We're continually investing in the power system to maintain safe and reliable service. These investments will enable us to interconnect and deliver up to 449 MW of additional renewable generation.

Community Geothermal

Central Hudson is working through state approval to build an underground geothermal network in a portion of downtown Poughkeepsie.

Renewable natural gas & long-term gas planning

Central Hudson is exploring the potential of adding renewable natural gas to our supply mix and is working with state regulators to develop a long-term climate strategy for the gas network.
