Two-to-ten days before you dig, drill or blast, you must call Dig Safely: New York by dialing 1 (800) 962-7962, or dial 811. Calling one of these numbers will also contact affected municipalities and other utilities (such as telephone and cable TV companies) so that they can mark out their facilities, as well.

Failure to make this call at least two, but no more than ten, full working days ahead of time can result in civil penalties, and you may be held liable for damages to underground facilities and other property, as well; but more important, you can cause severe, and even fatal, injury to yourself and others.
