Family Contribution / Operations: Operates
and maintains electric and gas transmission and distribution systems. This includes electric lines between
generating stations, substations, and consumers, requiring use of precautionary
work methods and safety equipment due to electrical hazards present when
working on or near energized conductors and electrical accessories. Also includes gas pipelines between gate
stations, regulator stations and consumers requiring precautionary work methods
and safety equipment due to hazards present when working on pressurized and potentially
explosive systems.
Individual Contribution: In support of the Company Mission and Family Contribution;
Plan, schedule, coordinate, and supervise personnel engaged in the
operation of the electric and gas Transmission systems and prepare, approve,
and direct Transmission switching and valving in accordance with established
procedures, practices, and safety rules.
Coordinate the safe and reliable operation of the electric and gas
Transmission systems with the NYISO (New York Independent System Operator),
neighboring Transmission Owners, and gas pipeline companies. Plan, schedule, coordinate, and supervise
the work of System
Operators and Assistant System Operatorspersonnel
engaged in the operation of the electric and gas Transmission and
Distribution distribution systems and accept responsibility
for all on-shift activity.
Maintain an operational environment with a strict adherence to a “0”
tolerance for error policy. Utilize productivity
improvement tools and practices to foster continuous improvement and ensure System Operators and Assistant
System Operators understand and utilize these tools as well. Schedule and/or perform training to ensure the necessary
qualifications are obtained and operational proficiency is
maintained for the System Operators and Assistant System Operators. .
Assess
the need for additional resources during off-hour and emergency situations to
ensure a prompt response to emergencies and perform callouts when
necessary. Monitor the Call Center
activity and supervise the Customer Service Representatives and Telephone
Representatives after-hours to ensure customer calls are handled promptly. Ensure the highest levels of safe work
practices are observed to strive for an accident and injury free workplace. Ensure other areas of the organization
and upper-Management are properly informed of system conditions and
events through timely and efficient communications. Ensure Regulatory Agencies are
notified of all reportable incidents in a timely manner. Maintain DOT Gas Operator qualification by
successfully completing the DOT Gas Operator Qualification Examination every 3
years. Maintain NERC (North American
Electric Reliability Council) Transmission Operator certification by completing
the required number of NERC Continuing Education Hours every 3 years.
Act as shift
supervisor and direct the activities of the Assistant System Operators assigned
to the shift. Prepare,
approve, direct, and control switching orders on the electric and gas
transmission systems. Monitor the
Economic Dispatch Program of the NYISO as it pertains to Central Hudson. Direct the operation of the electric and gas
transmission systems and production facilities during all hours outside of the
normal workweek. Coordinate System
Operations work functions with Customer Services Extended Hours personnel,
customers, contractors, and other operating units of the Company.
