Vice President – Engineering & Environmental Affairs

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  1. As a member of the Executive Management Team, participate with other executives and add value, through active participation, to corporate deliberations and decision making; assist in developing and carrying out the strategic direction of the Company, and in meeting the Company's overall corporate objectives. 
  2. Direct the day-to-day operations of the Engineering and Environmental Affairs organization in compliance with environmental standards and federal and state regulations, and assure that Public Service mandates for safe, adequate and reliable delivery of electric and natural gas service are met in a cost effective manner.  Day-to-day operations include the following:

         Construction, operation, inspection and maintenance of substation, gas turbine, hydro and gas production facilities;

         Planning, engineering, design and construction supervision of gas and electric infrastructure to meet customer needs;

         Maintaining environmental compliance of Company operations and related facilities;

         Managing of ROW's;

         Improving electric service reliability and gas safety;

         Maintaining gas and electric standards.

  1. Through the CARE Committee, develop long-range electric and gas system studies and analyses that will guide the capital planning process and assure that adequate infrastructure is put in place to reliably meet future customer requirements at the lowest cost over time.
  2. Develop productivity improvement programs and cost effective maintenance programs and plans to improve the reliability and lower the maintenance costs of substation, gas turbine, hydro and gas production assets.
  3. Ensure that the company and its contractors employ high quality, cost effective engineering standards, practices and procedures in construction, operation, maintenance and inspection work.
  4. Develop operational plans and closely monitor their execution, evaluate performance and respond quickly and effectively to deviations from plan and to emergency or unforeseen conditions as they arise.
  5. In concert with the Safety Director, develop and execute programs to improve employee safety.
  6. Develop inspection, maintenance and risk management programs to maintain the integrity and security of the Company's gas and electric facilities, rights-of-way and infrastructure.
  7. Through the Company's R&D Program, develop, test and incorporate new technologies, automated systems and software into operations to improve productivity and service quality.
  8. Work with the Corporate Services executives to develop human resource, IT, corporate communication and other corporate support services that meet the operational needs of the Company and contribute to improved productivity, safety and physical security.
  9. Work with Regulatory Affairs executives to coordinate decision making regarding service quality, operational policies and capital budgeting to assure full recovery of costs of providing service and avoidance of regulatory penalties or unduly burdensome requirements.
  10. Maintain community visibility and contribute to maintaining a corporate image of dedication to service of the communities Central Hudson serves.
  11. Attract and retain high quality employees for key operational responsibilities and place special emphasis on employee development and succession.
  12. Maintain positive working relationships with regulators, local labor leaders, municipal officials, local business leaders and industry executives.
  13. Chair the General Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
  14. Chair the R&D Committee.
  15. Serve as a member of the CARE Committee.
  16. Serve as a member of the Risk Management Committee
  17. Serve as a member of the IT Steering Committee.
  18. Serve as a member of the Corporate Ethics and Compliance Committee.
