Central Hudson’s Energy Efficiency Programs Save Energy,
Protect the Environment

 Energy efficiency programs offered since 2009 by Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corporation will save participating customers a combined $7.5 million dollars per year on their utility bills and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 105 million pounds annually. “Thousands of our customers have found real opportunities to reduce their energy use, help protect the environment and save money by taking advantage of Central Hudson’s energy efficiency programs,” said James P. Laurito, President of Central Hudson.

“During the three years our programs have been offered, our customers have turned in and recycled more than 8,800 refrigerators, freezers and window air conditioners; installed 1,400 high efficiency central air conditioning and heat pump systems; replaced 1,100 heating and water heating systems; installed 1,200 programmable thermostats; and upgraded lighting at 2,100 municipal and commercial buildings,” said Laurito.

“The energy saved by these measures is equivalent to powering more than 5,700 homes per year, and reduces emissions by the equivalent of removing 9,200 cars from the road or planting 13,000 acres of forest,” said Laurito. “These savings and benefits continue year after year.”

Central Hudson’s energy efficiency programs are offered to residential, commercial, institutional and municipal customers. “Using energy efficiently just makes sense, and our energy efficiency programs make it easy to save right away,” said Laurito. Examples include:

  • Rebates up to $700 on residential high efficiency heating and cooling systems, and up to $1,200 on commercial heating systems;
  • Incentives up to $600 to seal energy-draining leaks and drafts in homes;
  • Payments of $50 for turning-in and recycling older working refrigerators and freezers; and
  • Up to $700 in incentives for the purchase of high-efficiency heat pump water heaters.

 “These incentives help home and business owners take advantage of measures that can provide substantial benefits, and pay for themselves in energy savings,” said Laurito.
