New Electric Energy Use Record Set By Central Hudson Customers
Hot and humid conditions increased the use of electricity by customers of Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp., who set a new all time peak-use record of 1,201 megawatts (MW) between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 27. The former record of 1,153 MW was set on the previous day, Tuesday, July 26. High electrical loads in Southeastern New York prompted the New York Independent System Operator, which oversees the state's electric grid, to ask large industrial users to curtail electric use by activating the Emergency Demand Response Program (EDRP) between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Wednesday. This program provides incentives to large electric users to reduce energy consumption when electric loads are heaviest to help stabilize the system. "With continued heat and humidity, this is the fourth electric use record set by Central Hudson customers this year," said Carl E. Meyer, President and Chief Operating Officer of Central Hudson. "Residents are reminded that conserving energy, especially during the hottest days, will help them manage their energy bills, and help the statewide electric system provide energy when demands are at their highest," he said.
